The Skinny on Kirtsy

What is kirtsy anyway?

kirtsy is the place to find and/or link to anything and everything on the Web that you'd like to share. If kirtsy users like what you submit, they'll click on it. The more clicks, the more likely your link will make it to the Popular section on the left-hand side of the front page. The right-hand side of the page shows the Editors' Picks links. Links on the front page are seen by everybody and get lots of love. The front page content is ever-changing and always cool.

Of course, no one person can keep track of every cool thing out there. So kirtsy users bring the content. Click on the content. Determine what's good and what's bad. kirtsy works hard to make sure you don't miss any of the good stuff.

Who's behind the kirtsy?

From the East Coast. Gulf Coast. And in between. Read all about the 3 lovely ladies behind the site here.

What is kirtsy-worthy?

Anything and everything you think people will love. A new website. A sample sale announcement. An essay on body image. A pair of gorgeous red peep-toes. The latest on the elections. The best new hair-straightening tips. World news. A funny blog. Environmental updates. A hot recipe. An addictive online game. A party idea. And on and on and on.

How do I find things on kirtsy?

You have several options:
  1. Check out the main page and browse through the Up-and-Coming links to see what's on people's minds. Because kirtsy users click on the links they like, the front page content is consistently great – and feature the most popular (read: interesting) stories. If you're searching for the best stuff in any category, look no further than the front page.
  2. Click one of our category links at the top of every page (in the brown bar directly beneath the kirtsy logo) and browse the latest links for that topic.
  3. Use our search function conveniently located at the top right corner of every page.

Can I search by topic?

Yes. And it's easy too. Just click a category link at the top of the page to see all links in that topic

Can I customize which kirtsy items I see

You can view links posted to kirtsy many different ways:
  1. You can select a category at the top (in the brown bar under the logo) and view only the links submitted in that category.
  2. You can view the Popular links (the ones that have received lots of clicks) or the Up-and-Coming links (the ones that are working their way up to the Popular page. Just click on the tabs at the upper left (directly under the brown bar).
  3. You can sort your links by popularity. Next to the Popular and Up-and-Coming tabs you can select "Recently Popular" to see the most recent additions to the front page. "Top Today" will show you the best of today. "Yesterday" will show you the best of yesterday, and so on and so forth.

How exactly do I add something to kirtsy?

In just a few steps you'll be a pro and find yourself adding links right and left. Take 2 minutes to register. It's completely secure and private and kirtsy will never share your information with anyone (I assure you, we hate spam as much as you). Once you're registered click the bright orange "Submit a new story" button at the top of every page and follow the 3 simple steps. Hint: have the url of the link you want to share ready to paste into step 1.

How do I subtract something?

If it is a story link you have not clicked on, look for the "Lose It" button. Click this button to get rid of a story that is obviously spam.

If you have already clicked on the story link, then this button changes to "Un-vote". If you find you don't like the story (like it obviously spam once you get there), then just return to kirtsy and click the "Un-vote" button, and the vote count will go back down to what it was before you clicked the story link. You can also, at this point, click the "Lose it" button to help get rid of the story altogether.

How can I send a kirtsy item to a friend or post it on my blog?

It's simple. At the bottom of each kirtsy item, you'll see several options for passing the good news along. Click "ShareThis" to email the link to someone who'd appreciate it or add it to other social networking sites. You can also copy and paste the "Comments" link (which is also the Permalink) directly into your blog.

How can I find and track my friends' kirtsy items?

First you need to add your friends to your "my friends" list. Once you've registered and/or logged in, find some links that your friend has submitted. Just under the headline and the web address you'll see that person's name or user name. Click on that and you'll see two links appear to the right: "View profile" and "add to My friends." Clicking "add to My friends" will automatically add that person to your Friends list, and it will also take you to that person's kirtsy profile page.

Once there, you have lots of options for seeing the links they have posted (and will continue to post). You can:
  1. View all the links they have submitted by clicking on the "Submitted" tab.
  2. View all your friend's links that have made it to the front page of kirtsy by clicking on the "Published" tab.
  3. View all your friend's links that are working their way to the top by clicking on the "Upcoming" tab.
  4. View all the links that your friend has commented on by clicking on the "Commented" tab.
  5. View all the links that your friend has clicked on by clicking on the "Voted" tab.
  6. View all the links that your friend has saved by clicking on the "Saved" tab.
  7. Subscribe to an RSS feed of your friend's submissions by clicking "View [your friend's name]'s RSS feed."
